So you feel like the person you see in the mirror is not doing full justice to who you’ve worked hard to become on the inside. And you want to correct this. You want to look the best you can be and let your image be the expression of your inner refinement. Well that’s good, but where do you start?
Evaluate your present looks
Start by making an evaluation of your present looks and describe what you like and what you don’t like about it. Shoot a simple video of yourself with any cell phone or computer and look at yourself walking down the corridor like you usually walk. Take a front and back shot. What does the person you see in the video inspire to you? Be honest; make a list of adjectives that correspond to what you feel.
What do you presently inspire to others
Try to take the position of the potential customer you’d like to sell stuff to or the woman you would like to seduce or anybody that you admire and you’d like to approach for that matter. Now, if you were one of the characters mentioned above, would you be interested in establishing contact with you and discover what you have to offer ? If yes, congratulation, you don’t have much to worry about. If not, then why not? The truth is that people who do take the time to look their best are, contrary to the popular belief, ambitious in all areas of life, not just physically. And if they work hard to achieve their goal, there is no reasons for them to go the extra mile to hang out with people who have the “potential” to be great but are not making the effort to actually be great.
Find a role Model and analyze him
Find someone that you feel has good looks and charisma. To make it work, it’s better if he has more or less the same corpulence and stature as you. Then, analyze the following points:
- Style (clothing)
- Facial expression
- Eye contact
- Standing and walking manner (Body language)
- Style of communication (Psycholinguistics)
Now, imagine for a second the following: what would this guy look like if he dressed like you, stood and walked like you and made similar unassertive facial expressions and eye contacts as you do? Would he still look as appealing? I doubt it.
What about the opposite, if you did everything like he did, wouldn’t you look as charismatic, if not better? Or is there something so special about you that whatever you do or whatever you wear, you stay undistinctive?
Finding your own style
If you need help finding your style, take this quiz. But the main point is to stay coherent. Style is an expression of identity and also a way to identify with your community. Whether you are an athlete, a musician, a factory worker, a banker, or a scientist, there is a dress code that is shared by people in your social circle. You can adhere to that dress code or find another one from another group of people. After that, it’s time to add your personal touch and make that style unique by playing with the combination of colors, body fitment etc.
The importance of weight lifting and proper diet
I shouldn’t even have to mentioned this, but in case you were convinced, lifting weight, eating healthy and sleeping enough will guarantee long term results. For diet purpose, I would recommend two website to start with; Lyle Macdonald’s body recomposition and Martin Bekhan’s Leangains. For exercise routine purposes, go straight to www.bodybuilding.com.
